Freefall is a youth arts group for young people aged between 13-16 years run by Exeter Phoenix. The group aims to create a space to socialize, share ideas and opinions and develop creative projects together.
Chantal Powell’s work explores the symbolic language of the unconscious through the lenses of Jungian theory, ancient mythology, and alchemical literature. Employing a variety of materials, including ceramics, glass, and textiles, she bridges psychological processes with archetypal imagery, illuminating the transformative potential of the human psyche.

Hot Flash is a solo exhibition of ceramic sculpture, animation and drawing by Melanie Jackson, that brings together two bodies of recent work, Rouge Flambé and Spekyng Rybawdy, in a pair of installations across Exeter Phoenix’s two gallery spaces. Together, they present us with an assembly of conceptual nomads, drawn from medieval sculptures of dissent; to incendiary (colonial) trading histories; to a fascination with technoscience’s visions and chimeras.
The Devil’s Helix considers a reinterpretation of fossils of the past while questioning the conclusions made of the marks we leave from the future. This digitally manipulated, scaled up iteration of a photographic collage forms part of the artist’s ongoing investigation into future fossils and the implications of human activity on the stratigraphic record.
