DOCLAB hosts monthly Development Labs that offer a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space for documentary filmmakers to come together, share ideas, and develop their projects. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, our labs are designed to support and nurture filmmakers at every stage of their creative journey.

Each session provides an opportunity to workshop your documentary ideas, practice pitching to a supportive group, and share works-in-progress or completed projects for thoughtful feedback and discussion. Through peer to peer support the Development Labs aim to help you grow your storytelling skills, build confidence, and connect with a vibrant community of fellow filmmakers.

DOCLAB PRESENTS: Cornwall on Camera

Interested in watching documentaries curated by DOCLAB? DOCLAB presents an evening of documentary films from Cornish filmmakers, brought together by a shared connection to place. From Cornwall’s hidden mines and storm-battered landscapes to the warming seas of the Mediterranean, these films explore the ways our environments shape us—and the ways we, in turn, shape them.

Across stories of adventure, friendship, conservation and change, Shaped by Place brings together three distinct documentary voices with Cornwall, its landscape, people and culture at their creative roots.

What is DOCLAB?

DOCLAB brings together novice and emerging filmmakers from across Devon who are currently, or aspiring to, make short and longer form documentary films. The aim is to inspire and enable participants through networking, film screenings and talks/workshops and ultimately to discover who is out there and what YOU need.

DOCLAB is a collaboration between Exeter Phoenix and documentary filmmaker Pip Piper.
