TWO DAY COURSE

In this 2-day course you will learn how to abstract the landscape through woodblock print. Adrian will show you the basic process of Japanese woodblock printing while focusing on simplifying and abstracting the landscapes. Unlock the secret to balancing one, composition and colour inspired by the colourful world modernism and abstraction

This is an opportunity to learn how to create modernist, abstract woodblock prints that investigate space and colour. It will build your confidence in approaching abstraction enabling insights into how to develop your own personal approach to woodblock printmaking. The course is a great way to expand your knowledge and skills if you have already attended a previous workshop but also suitable for beginners.

Materials: All materials will be provided by the tutor. The items you will need to bring with you are listed below.

Please bring with you:

• Any sketches or photos that inspire you, but this is not compulsory (Keep ideas simple!!!)
• you might like to bring your own watercolours (which must be in tubes) as the tutor will just have basic colours
• Any of your own paint brushes you want to use.
• Wear something that can be splashed without disaster, (although it is not a particularly messy process)
• A cushion for your bums!

COURSE TUTOR: ADRIAN HOLMES

Adrian’s authentic understanding of the woodblock printing methods comes from years of devoted study and practice in Japan. His personal practice is based in Cornwall and centres around semi-abstract works landscapes and places.
