SHORT FILM COMMISSION 2020

Applications for our 2020 film commissions are now open.

In Brief

Exeter Phoenix recognises that moving image plays an important role in reflecting our culture, establishing individual voices and we can help filmmakers and artists develop new skills and long-term relationships with cast, crew and cinema audiences, both locally and nationally. This year we are offering two short film commissions, the South West Short Film Commission and the Devon Short Film Commission.

Level Of Funding

The 2020 Exeter Phoenix Short Film Commissions will offer TWO awards of £1500 for the development of an inspiring and ambitious narrative, which will engage a cinema audience though concise visual story telling. Aimed at those who have some experience in making short films previously, however are now looking for funding to take their filmmaking to a professional level and develop a career in the industry. We accept applications from all genres of film, including drama, documentary, animation, experimental and more. The South West Short Film Commission is open to filmmakers based in the South West. The Devon Short Film Commission is open to filmmakers based in Devon only. We are expecting these films to speak to a cinema audience and be of a high enough standard to enter into the film festival circuit and exhibited both nationally and internationally. Exeter Phoenix requires two edits of the short film, one final version that is 10-12 minutes long and a trailer that is 1-2 minutes long. We can also offer a set amount of in-kind support in the form of free/reduced equipment hire, access to facilities such as edit suites, rehearsal spaces, access to training courses as well as technical and creative advice and mentoring.
