Kondo is penniless and alone when he returns to his hometown of Ginpei-cho but a chance encounter with Sato, a homeless man who loves the movies and Kajiwara, the manager of the local independent cinema, Ginpei Scala Theatre. Here Kondo is thrust in to the small but quirky community that surrounds the theatre where staff, customers, struggling actors and an extcentric projectionist encourage him to make some self discoveries and revives his long forgotten dreams.

The JFTFP24 delves into Japanese cinema to explore how memories are employed in the cinematic voices of Japanese filmmakers, from films where memories are a focal point to works where they play a subliminal role in driving or affecting people’s minds and behaviour.

With an incredibly diverse range of films all based on memories, time, and reflections, this year’s programme is set to provide UK audiences with memorable stories and unforgettable moments.
