Adapted from his 2012 prize-winning play of the same name writer/director, Florian Zeller has turned to the big screen to reframe the perspective of succumbing to dementia.

Anthony (played by Anthony Hopkins) is 80. He is mischievous and highly independent and wont accept the help arranged for him by his caring daughter Anne (Olivia Coleman). Yet help is also becoming a necessity for Anne; she can’t make daily visits anymore and Anthony’s grip on reality is unravelling. As we experience the ebb and flow of his memory we are dropped into the mind of someone with dementia. How much of his own identity and past can Anthony cling to?

The Father warmly embraces real life, through loving reflection upon the vibrant human condition; heart-breaking and uncompromisingly poignant – a movie that nestles in the truth of our own lives.
