Amulet Workshop
Design and make a unique amulet for protection or a talisman for luck. Your design may include clay beads to go with the amulet. There will be a number of different clay bodies to choose from, including porcelain, earthenware and stoneware. A selection of coloured slips to add to your piece will be available. Create a meaningful object for yourself or someone in your life. Your piece will be fired, boxed and sent to you in the post, or you can pick it up in person from the Exeter Phoenix Box office.
COURSE TUTOR: MANDY BISCOE
Mandy is a socially engaged artist and community gardener. She specialises in delivering creative and environmental arts projects that include all sections of the community in a shared purpose towards nature connection and its stewardship. Her aim is to embed art into everyday life. She works with clay and uses other media as projects demand.

This workshop will take place after Melanie Jackson’s Artist Talk for her exhibition Hot Flash at Exeter Phoenix.
Hot Flash is a solo exhibition of ceramic sculpture, animation and drawing by Melanie Jackson, that brings together two bodies of recent work, Rouge Flambé and Spekyng Rybawdy, in a pair of installations across Exeter Phoenix’s two gallery spaces. Together, they present us with an assembly of conceptual nomads, drawn from medieval sculptures of dissent; to incendiary (colonial) trading histories; to a fascination with technoscience’s visions and chimeras.
