In response to the developing coronavirus situation in the UK, Exeter Phoenix is currently closed to the public. This is a temporary measure and we are taking this on a month-by-month basis. No events will be taking place during March, and the vast majority of events will be rescheduled for later in the year. We are following government advice and acting in the best interests of our visitors and staff.
Unprecedented closures like this with no confirmed government support will be hugely damaging for charities like Exeter Phoenix and many other sectors. If you are in a position to consider making a donation HERE, we would be extremely grateful.
This exhibition reveals the process of constructing a hand stitched, sculptural dress created as part of a series of workshops with the Resillient Women Project.
‘As we sat around the table peacefully stitching, sharing our stories, supporting each other, some women sewing for the first time, we connected through thread, the fabric of life‘. Project Artist Nicci Wonnacott
The work was been made over the past two years to celebrate IWD.
The Resilient Women Project is based in CoLab Exeter and was created as a response to the unmet needs of many women in Exeter, initially with a focus on those at risk of involvement in the justice system, but now supporting a wider cohort of women with multiple and complex needs.
In the past two years our footfall of women accessing support at CoLab has increased from 19% to 41%. We work on a women first basis, supporting women to access safe space where they can access support and specialist help, both individually and in groups. We offer one to one support and a range of positive activity and learning opportunities. A quarter of women we work with are aged 50+.
Between September and December 2019, we worked with 61 individual women over 240 visits for whom isolation and mental health were the two key priority issues.
Community based exhibitions from local groups, projects and creative activities.
