The key to good writing is specificity. Being precise and specific is what brings a story to life, so that your reader not only believes it, but feels it.
In this three-hour workshop we will look at examples of specificity in fiction and memoir. We will explore memory, and consider how sharply defined references and tiny details can pinpoint distinct places, characters, or moments in time. You will be guided through a series of exercises that will bring specificity to your own prose. By the end of the session you will have learnt to pay attention to the particular, giving your writing greater clarity and authenticity, making it more original and effective.
This workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to more experienced writers.
