Double Bill: To Fire You Come At Last (18) + Razor Blade Smile (18) + Director Q+A

Opening night double bill! An eerie folk horror mini-feature followed by the cult vampire assassin flick Razor Blade Smile. Followed by a Q & A with director Jake West.

To Fire You Come At Last (18)

Dir Sean Hogan
2023 | 42 mins | UK, US

An eerie folk horror mini-feature and an atmospheric homage to the great tradition of British supernatural television from the 1970s. In rural 17th-century England, a group of men gather to carry a coffin on the long walk to the local graveyard for burial. Much ancient folklore and superstition surround the pathway to the church, and several of the party are afraid to walk it after dark. Squire Marlow, the grieving father of the dead man, promises to double their wages if they agree to make the mysterious journey full of unexpected revelations.

The film features James Swanton who will be joining Jonathan Rigby on Saturday to discuss the actors who have portrayed Dracula – ‘Lords of Dracula’.

Razor Blade Smile (18) + Q&A with Director Jake West

Dir Jake West
1998 | 100 mins | UK

‘Part seductress. Part Assassin. All vampire.’

Lilith Silver (Eileen Daly) is a contract killer with an unusual past – 150 years ago she had been mortally wounded in a duel, but was saved from death by being transformed into a vampire. In the present day she kills on behalf of Platinum, her boss and lover, whose targets include members of the ‘Illuminati’, a supernatural underground cult. When Platinum is kidnapped, Lilith sinks her teeth into the task of getting her back.

Before ‘Underworld’ there was ‘Razor Blade Smile’! Jake West’s (Video Nasties, Doghouse, Midnight Peepshow, Mancunian Man) high octane lo-fi cult action horror is presented here to celebrate its 25th anniversary, with a special Q & A with the director after the presentation.
