    Theory & Practice: Modernism

    One Day Workshop

Enter the world of the Modernists and use their ideas in artwork of your own.

Modernism – a desire to reject styles of the past; not interested in pure representation but instead concerning itself with the new and the conceptual. Abstract thought process through the use of  experimentation in forms, materials and techniques in order to create artworks that better reflected modern society.

In the morning session we will consider slides from key Modernist artists from it’s origins and throughout the twentieth century. We will discuss and reflect on these artists, and consider what it is about the modernism that means something to you – be it colour, pattern or form.

After lunch we will work in the studio to create a reaction to the mornings seminar, working in drawings, painting and mixed media.
