Director Bent Hamer (Kitchen Stories) one of Norway’s best storytellers returns to the English language with a film about grief and trauma. Delivered with Hamer’s signature, absurd Nordic, dark humour and his sharp observations about modern life.

Frank Farrelli lives in Karmack, a small town in south-west USA. Frank is in his thirties but still lives with his mother after losing his job at the railway station when it was closed down. The town of Karmack has no jobs to offer, nor a future prospect for its residents. With its decreasing population and bad economy, Karmack is governed by the Sheriff, the Doctor and the Pastor – the so-called Commission – who run the town as best as they can. But with strange deaths starting to occur, the Commission sees no other option than to employ a Middle Man to convey painful messages to bereaved relatives. Frank is employed as Karmack’s first official Middle Man.

The disillusioned inhabitants of Karmack struggle to maintain dignity, as little by little the town’s characters come to expose their previously hidden lives.
