Fabian’s Film presents a season of eight films exploring five subcultural themes: age, class, race, gender and disability. Though each film illustrates themes considered specific to a certain group, their narratives pinpoint the connections to issues which, as a society we can all identify.

Winner of a slew of awards, including Best Director at the 2013 British Independent Film Awards, this thriller audaciously transposes the tropes of early American Film Noir to the modern streets of Manila.

Covering stylistic ground normally associated with the work of Christopher Nolan, Sean Ellis injects his tight narrative with some strong performances and a punchline to match.

Seeking a better life, Oscar Ramirez and his family decide to move from the poverty stricken rice fields of the Northern Philippine mountain ranges and journey towards the capital mega city of Manila. Upon arriving in the big city, it isn’t long before they fall foul to various city inhabitants whose manipulative ways are a daily part of city survival.

Shot on a miniscule budget using a prosumer canon 5D DSLR, Sean Ellis’ film is also noted for it’s cross cultural production; shooting the entire film in a language that he did not understand.
