First screened in 1963 this French New Wave drama, written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, is is considered to be Godard’s most opulent and emotive production which is based on the 1954 Italian novel Il disprezzo (A Ghost at Noon) by Alberto Moravia.
Starring Brigitte Bardot and Michel Piccoli Le Mepris centres on the growing tensions between a married couple. Paul, an aspiring playwright, finds himself caught between the director and the producer, on a movie adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey. When Paul finds himself swayed by the power of the producer’s money, he finds his wife Camille begins to regard him with increasing contempt.
