Family Saturdays are a mix of brilliant workshops and exciting art activities for families to enjoy together. It’s the perfect place to spend some family time while doing fun creative stuff.

This March we’re exploring all things to do with Shadow Puppetry. Below you’ll find a great range of shadow-tastic workshops and you can wrap up your day out with a performance from one of the finest shadow puppetry performers in the South West, Clockwork Moth.

 

10.30am – 11am:  Seasonal Storytelling with Love Local Food  love-local-food

11.15 – 12.15: Workshop, £3.50, siblings £3.

Make your own Fairytale shadow-puppets and try them out with our scenery. From Rapunzel in her forest tower, to a shoe-making elf, to a wolf in granny’s clothing, shadows are the essence of Grimms! Simple, effective. Suitable for all ages.

12.30 – 1pm: Jumping beans, £2.50, siblings £2

Pretend to be some of Grimm’s famous characters, sweep like Cinderella, Sleep like Beauty, or spin like Rumplestiltskin, beware of the Wolf Little Red Riding Hood!
(2 – 5years)

1.15 – 1.45pm: Become a shadow puppeteer! Free workshop.

Fancy being a shadow-puppeteer? We will show you how to operate some of our very own touring shadow-puppets, from the simplest to the more tricky. We will then perform a short fairy-tale for a video-camera, then watch the film back to see how it looks to an audience. Suitable for all ages.

A shadow puppetry play for adults and children

The Clockwork Moth bring you the finest shadow puppetry in the west in a timeless saga for all ages. Feast your senses on this little known Grimms take, performed to a striking live musical score. A teenage boy, believed to have been born lucky, embarks on a journey to the underworld and back. Enter a brutal King, a deathly ferryman, a narcissistic Lucifer and a host of wise women, curses, incantations and courtly delights. This is Grimms darkness at its best.
