Creative Tech for Kids

Come along and experiment with all kinds of new and exciting digital creative technology in this fun-packed day. You will be able to print your own personalised 3D Easter egg and build a music synthesizer and create movement sensitive LEDs that light up when you move past them!

Session #1: Build a synthesizer
10am-11am

Explore electronic music by using electronic components and chips to build a basic synthesizer. Starting with a kit of parts you’ll build a basic circuit including a battery and a speaker. Connect it up, turn the knobs and see what sounds you can create.

Session #2: An introduction to 3D Printing
11.30am-12.30pm

Learn all about the exciting new technology of 3D printing, see a working 3D printer and use simple design software to create your own personalised 3D Easter egg which will be printed for later for you to collect later.

Session #3: Using Scratch to talk to the outside world
1.30pm-2.30pm

Using Scratch on the popular Raspberry Pi computer, connect switches, LEDs and a distance sensor to take your Scratch project into the real world. Make your sprite move as you get closer to the screen, turn the LED on when someone walks past or use switches to control your game.

Session #4: Sonic Pi
3pm-4pm

Use the Sonic Pi music program on a Raspberry Pi to code your own song or try changing the code for one of the examples provided. Can you change the tune while it’s playing and become a live loop DJ?

The individual sessions are priced at £9 each or we are offering a 10% discount if you buy all four sessions in bulk for only £33.

All materials will be provided. Please note that the attendees will not be able to take any materials home with them after the sessions, apart from the 3D printed egg.

If you are attending for the full day with all four sessions then please bring a packed lunch with you. Parents welcome to stay to help younger children and join in the fun.
