Join moMENtum for an Afternoon with moMENtum for Bloom 2022, in which members will present their own creative work. This will include poetry and other spoken-word, from from Patrick Sandford (writer and performer of the play, now a film, Groomed), John Slater (co-director of moMENtum), James Turner (poet, author of A Chance of Love: Sonnets of Two Decades, Exeter Poetry Slam Champion 2015), and music improvised by Gregory David (author of Trauma Recovery Manual) on saxophone.

ABOUT MOMENTUM

moMENtum is a group run by and for male survivors of child sexual abuse. We meet for mutual support, and to hear each other’s stories. We help each other heal from the effects of a crime that is more common than many realise, affecting 1 in 5 boys worldwide, across all backgrounds. We also seek to raise awareness of this situation, so that more trauma-informed therapy is available, and more survivors can find the right kind of help. Medication and diagnosis may be necessary for some, but it is not enough just to be given a diagnosis and prescribed some medication. Understanding is also needed, of the trauma – usually abuse in childhood or early manhood, sexual, emotional, physical, or in combination – that underlies mental health problems. Meeting with fellow survivors in a group like ours can be an added, major help.

We are putting on a show called An Afternoon with moMENtum for Bloom 2022, 8th May, 2.30-4.30pm, in Studio 2, Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre, in which members will present their own creative work.
