SS In The Lounge

SS in the lounge will be a gig night on Friday 25th July from 5:30 – 10:30 in the Voodoo Lounge to raise money for Scope and Sane who are locally based UK charities. Bands to be appearing include Eleisha and band, Lucy Aggett, Caitlin Boulton, Chiyodu Ku and The New Lights with others to be announced on the night. We would like to thank Sainsbury’s Guildhall for their contribution to help us carry out our gig night.

Sane is a charity based in London, promoting awareness and fundraising for people of all ages with mental health illnesses. One in Four people experience a mental health problem and they aim to help those in need, who feel alone and are unable to receive help locally. They have a helpline for those facing suicidal thoughts that’s available every day at any time of day or night.

Scope strives for equal opportunities for those with disability and have campaigns such as; the end the awkward campaign which helps people understand that disability is not a limiter, and people with disability don’t need to be treated any differently than anybody else. They want people to be able to talk freely about disability and to feel comfortable around disabled people.

We chose to help these charities because disability and mental health affect everyone in some way, as we all know of or interact with people with mental health problems or disabilities and we should learn to talk to people openly about their struggles with today’s ignorance.

Exeter Phoenix are working together with the National Citizen Service (NCS) to help inspire young people towards community engagement. This event has been wholly organised by young people taking part in this NCS program.
