Multi-award winning NOMADLAND follows Fern, a woman who, after the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, packs her van and sets off on the road exploring life from town to town, picking up short-term work where she can. Adapted from journalist Jessica Bruder’s book, director Chloe Zhao takes care and insight to presents an intimate study of a life outside of conventional society as she populate the film with real life nomads such as Linda May, Swanky and Bob Wells who share their resilience and resourcefulness and mentor Fern into a life unlike any she’s known before.

McDormand brings Fern to life with a powerful performance as she journeys through the expansive open landscapes of the Western United States, exquisitely captured by Zhao’s regular collaborator, (and Cornish bred) cinematographer Joshua James Richards. NOMADLAND is a fascinating celebration of humanity independence and adventure.
