In writer-director Tom Fords deliciously outrageous follow up to A Single Man, LA gallery owner Susan unexpectedly receives a manuscript from her unsuccessful novelist ex-husband, revealing a vengeance-seeking agenda. Reading it while her current husband is away on an adulterous weekend, were treated to a film within a film, as Susan is forced to reconcile a nightmarish narrative constructed by her broken-hearted ex with her own past and new, failing marriage.
Expect career-best performances from leads Adams, Gyllenhaal and Shannon, but with scene-stealing turns from Laura Linney and Andrea Riseborough that are equally impressive.
Nocturnal Animals delivers a double shot of horror and Nabokovian despair
there is an unwholesome kind of toxic deliciousness in this film: a vodka kick of pure malice. ?????
