Watercolour Paintmaking

Step into a slower, more mindful way of making with a hands-on paint making workshop led by Ferrous and Bone (previously Art Scribe).

Spend the day immersed in the traditional craft of hand-mulled watercolour paint. This approachable and welcoming workshop is designed for all levels, whether you’re a practising artist or simply curious to try something new. Guided demonstrations will introduce you to time-honoured techniques and traditional tools before you settle into a relaxed, collaborative studio environment to create your own watercolour paint from raw pigment.

You’ll explore the unique qualities of different pigments, discover how they behave on paper, and gain a practical understanding of colour mixing theory through simple, engaging exercises with the paint you’ve made.

By the end of the day, the group will have created a beautiful palette of hand-mulled watercolour paints to take home, along with newfound knowledge and inspiration to continue your practice.

Expect a calm, creative atmosphere, plenty of hands-on making, and a rewarding sense of connection to materials and to colour.

All materials and equipment provided, however you are welcome to bring along 1–2 of your favourite watercolour paint brushes and watercolour pad.
