
Our Buildings
Our work goes beyond the walls of our flagship venue. Exeter Phoenix is supported by three sister-venues on Gandy Street, including our independent craft and gift shop Maker's Mart, and provides Project Spaces to several independent creative organisations across the city.
Our Flagship Venue
Exeter Phoenix
Bradninch Place, Gandy St, Exeter, EX4 3LS
Since opening in 1999, Exeter Phoenix has been situated in Bradninch Place which has a rich cultural history. You can read more about the building's history here.
Open to the public six days a week, our flagship venue hosts a busy programme of events, gallery spaces offering free access to contemporary visual art, our independent cinema Studio 74, and our vibrant Cafe Bar. Many of the spaces in our building are also available to hire.
Alongside what we do, our flagship venue is home to several independent creative organisations, including Double Elephant, an open-access community-based printmaking studio; Phonic FM, a community radio station for the city and beyond; and Sound Gallery Studios, an award-winning professional recording studio.
Step-free access is available to the ground floor and first floor of our venue. Unfortunately, our second floor is not accessible via lift. You can details about building accessibility here.
Our Sister-Venues
Exeter Phoenix is supported by three sister-venues on Gandy Street. As part of our ongoing Green Phoenix Project, all three of our sister-venues are powered exclusively by renewable electricity.

The Mermaid
Situated on Gandy Street next to our shop Maker's Mart, our sister-venue The Mermaid is a quirky underground bar, serving a range of classic cocktails, craft beers and premium spirits. The Refuge underneath the bar is also host to regular events and club nights.

Pixy's Bar
Specialising in local produce, our sister-venue Pixy's Bar on Gandy Street showcases the best beers, wines, cider and spirits that the South West has to offer. Pixy's also hosts a regular Soul Pizza pop up, making it the perfect spot for an evening bite.

Maker Mart
11a Gandy Street, Exeter, EX4 3LS
Maker Mart is an independent craft and gift shop on Gandy Street, dedicated to promoting designers and makers across the South West. With over 130 current stockists, each sale supports local makers and the work of Exeter Phoenix.

Our Project Spaces
By providing Project Spaces across the city, we are proud to support a number of independent creative organisations doing great things for our community.

184-187 Sidwell St, Exeter EX4 6RD
EP Sidwell Street hosts a range of activities, artists, producers, cultural partners, and community projects. The building is home to Positive Light Projects, a not for profit organisation that uses visual arts to engage a diverse range of audiences and communities; The Pelican Project, a collective of learning-disabled members and partners working to reduce isolation and raise quality of life; and Traction Project Space, an artist-led gallery developed by Erika Cann. Positive Light Project's community darkroom can also be accessed here with a monthly membership. Please note, the building is not open to the general public on a day-to-day basis, except for when there is specific activity programmed.

21 Paris Street, Exeter EX1 2JB
EP Paris Street is home to The Source Studios, the underground recording and rehearsal studio of Music In Devon Initiative (MIDI). MIDI is a non-profit-making organisation which has been founded by a group of local musicians and music industry professionals. They aim to develop emerging talent, increase opportunities for musicians and audiences, and generate business for the music industry in Devon.

King William Street, Exeter EX
EP King William Street is home to TOPOS, a closed studio and exhibtion space initiated by Exeter based artist Volkhardt Müller. Established in 2015, TOPOS has hosted a growing body of art work made in response to the landscapes and themes that frame, intersect and sustain the city of Exeter.
