Lecture-Performance by filmmaker May Ziadé & Screening of Neo Nahda + Q&A
This event is generously funded by theSouth West Doctoral Training Partnership. All profits go to the filmmaker’s fee.
Growing up in a context where family photos are hidden or confiscated, May has been obsessed with seeking images of her own life from a young age.
Continuing her mother’s legacy of retrieving these personal traces– through barter, subterfuge, and organised theft– together they built a trove of family albums.
One day, these images of childhood were no longer enough: other missing landscapes rose to the shore, along with a desire for new kinds of filiation.
In this lecture-performance, May will explore the visual archives of Arab family, feminism, and gender that played a role in her coming-of-age & in the making of the film Neo Nahda.
