Exploring Still Life Drawing

This course explores the fundamental elements of creating still life drawings.

Develop personal narratives through the composition of objects, work with form, tone, colour and texture to create a collection of sketches and drawings for your portfolio

You will have the opportunity to use a range of techniques including observational drawing and a variety of media including graphite pencil, pen, white and sanguine pencils, colour pencils as well as watercolour. We will be exploring the elements of design and the principles of composition to create sketches and finished pieces.

You will also be encouraged to use what you’ve learned to explore your own creative ideas and personal approach.

For inspiration and context we will be looking at the work of artists with a strong focus on Latin American artists who have explored the potential of drawing objects in their own unique ways to convey emotions.

Participants will be encouraged to bring in their own objects to draw to create an extra dimension to their own drawings.

We aim to create a safe space in which to share ideas and give constructive feedback on each other’s work throughout the course and in the final week there will be an opportunity to present work to the group and reflect on each other’s creative journeys.
