5 week course


Explore the book format in its broadest sense, experiment with different materials, structures and artistic techniques to create unique and engaging artworks.

During this course we will be;

  • Learning how to combine different materials, structures, and artistic techniques to create visually engaging book art.
  • Encouraged to think outside the box and explore unconventional materials.
  • Draw inspiration from a wide range of source materials. This could include personal themes, existing ideas, or entirely new concepts tailored to your preferred book format.
  • Fostering a creative environment where ideas can be shared and discussed among participants.
  • Exploring various materials suitable for book art and selecting materials that align with the desired theme or concept.
  • Looking at different book formats (concertina, booklet and stab bound book ) and discussing the possibilities each format offers
  • Exploring the concept of altered books as a unique format for expressing ideas and themes.
  • Discussing the potential of altering existing books to tell a new narrative or convey a specific message.
  • Guided on ethical considerations when altering existing books.

TUTOR: SIOBHAN MARTIN

Siobhan is an experienced art and design trained teacher with over 30 years of teaching experience in diverse settings and with a wide range of age groups. Her expertise lies in the disciplines of drawing, printmaking, collage, and book arts.

Siobhan’s book art pieces can be found in notable collections both in her home country and abroad. Her works have been included in the book arts collection at Tate Britain as well in the prestigious Sallie Bingham Centre for Women’s History & Culture in the US.
