Dolly’s Film Club Presents: Grey Gardens (PG)

Dir. Albert Maysles, Albert Maysles, Ellen Hovde, Muffie Meyer
1975 | 100 mins
Edith ‘Little Edie’ Bouvier Beale, Edith Bouvier Beale

Meet Little Edie and Big Edie, the mother daughter duo living in the ramshackle chaos of their crumbling East Hampton mansion. Former upper class dropouts, cousin of Jackie O and living life on their own terms, amongst their cats, clothes and raccoons, the Edies are unapologetically idiosyncratic and watchable.

This documentary has spawned a musical, a movie starring Drew Barrimore and Jessica Lange and a spoof episode of Documentary Now! Amongst countless references in pop culture.

A 2014 Sight and Sound poll film critics voted Grey Gardens the tenth-best documentary film of all time, and was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

Grey Gardens is an outrageously fun and camp documentary that allows these women to live their eccentric lives out loud! So grab your furs or head scarves and lets spend some time with the Edies.

What is Dolly’s Film Club?

Dolly’s Film Club celebrates the camp, kitsch, queer, garish and unapologetically enjoyable side of cinema, but most of all Dolly’s Film Club is to celebrate the JOY of being an audience.

You are always encourage to wear fancy dress or themed outfits to Dolly’s Film Club, and there’s always a little bit extra catnip involved in our screenings…

DFC launched last year with a screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show, and screening a film it’s more fun to see as an audience, Dolly’s Film Club always adds a little extra catnip, from pop quizzes to DJ Nights. This year Dolly’s Film Club will present a monthly film and we would love you to be part of our club!

Dolly is also a cat.
