This dazzling, breathlessly inventive and irrepressibly witty tribute to the New Yorker magazine proves Anderson is still at the top of his game.

The French Dispatch is a high-brow magazine based in the imagined French town of Blasé-sur-Ennui. But is has reached its end. Its founder (Bill Murray) has died and his beloved creation looks set to shut down operations. In doing so, its staff reflect nostalgically, when the writers were as celebrated as the subjects they covered.

Fuelled by the ultimate all-star cast, including Anderson’s regulars (Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Willan Defoe, Owen Wilson) and loaded with his trademark shooting style, colour pallet and exquisite score the French Dispatch is an absolute treat from beginning to end.

From giant Christmas puddings to the bright lights of a village fete, Compass Presents have chosen a selection of wonderful archive films to celebrate the festive season. We invite audiences to spot their local area in snowy scenes from across the South West, to marvel at the queue for the first day of the Dingle January sales, and delight in the dazzling array of costumes and floats at Bridgwater carnival.

This project was created in partnership with The Box Plymouth and supported by the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) the short films have been carefully curated, spliced and diced by archive aficionados Compass Presents.
