Art and Ideas: Collage and Mixed Media

During this 5 Week Course, we will be looking at ways of using collage and how we might combine it with other media including drawing, stitching and using digital processes to create a unique series of collages.We will be taking inspiration and finding starting points from the work of a group of pioneering artists including; Hannah Höch (Germany), Barbara Kruger (USA), Maria Berrio (Colombia), Betania Ruttia (Paraguay) and Magali Lara (Mexico).During the final week of the course, we will be creating a display of the work produced, sharing experiences and producing constructive reviews of each other’s work.Basic materials will be provided, but it will be useful for you to bring along a sketch book to make notes and to record ideas and materials you may want to use in your artwork.

Course Tutor: Ludmila Centurión Segovia

Artist and educator Ludmila Centurión Segovia grew up in Asunción, Paraguay where she studied and worked before moving to the UK to complete a MA in Creative Arts in Education at The University of Exeter. After graduating in 2021, she has chosen to stay in England to continue exploring the arts, arts education, creativity and this country’s diverse cultures. She has over 10 years of teaching art to a broad range of students, from children to adults. Her studies and workshops draw on the ideas of British philosopher and art historian, Sir Herbert Read and her own cultural heritage.
