An exhibition by the young people who attend Exeter Phoenix’s youth art groups Freefall and Freefall+
This exhibition takes its title from the neon sign created with generous input from Exeter based Neon 87 and was developed through a series of workshops exploring text. Both groups felt that the phrase ‘become fragmented’ referenced the process of collaging images and text as well as referencing feelings of isolation and disconnection. Fragments of the year’s activity can be glimpsed in the background of images behind the sign.
Freefall is Exeter Phoenix’s youth arts group for young people between the ages of 13-16, usually running on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm during term time at Exeter Phoenix.
Freefall+ aims to support young people who are no longer in education and have complex support needs. The group meets regularly, offering an inclusive space to come together to explore the arts, to create and to access the networks of support that Exeter Phoenix facilitates. We work in partnership with The Pelican Project to deliver these sessions.
Both groups are free to attend and give participants a chance to socialise, share ideas and develop creative projects together, working across a range of artforms and activities. The groups aim to give young people a deeper understanding and enjoyment of art, creativity and culture while helping to improve confidence and skills and increasing self-awareness and reflection.
Freefall sessions are run by qualified arts practitioners with the support of a broad range of guest artists and regularly explore ideas and events that connect with the wider programme of exhibitions, festivals and performances at Exeter Phoenix.
