Limbo is a wry and poignant observation of the refugee experience, set on a fictional remote Scottish island where a group of new arrivals await the results of their asylum claims. It centres on Omar, a young Syrian musician who is burdened by his grandfather’s oud, the king of Arabic music instruments, which he has carried all the way from his homeland.
This beautiful gem of a film offers a humanist approach to the asylum process which is as gentle and intimate as the characters centred within. To celebrate the release of Limbo by MUBI, BFI FAN have teamed up with ArtReach to platform short films along side the screenings.
Journeys into Film is a fresh and thoughtful selection of short films from five contemporary filmmakers that offer both artistic intrigue and an injection of the reality of displacement and seeking refuge. Through bold, experimental, and intimate approaches, these films articulate the voices of their makers’ lived experiences and will resonate with audiences across the country. Exeter Phoenix Young Audience Panel have chosen from this selection.
