Clio Barnard (Ali & Ava – a Studio 74 favourtie of 2021) brings her charateristic style and energy to this new film, which tells the story of five Birmingham friends navigating loss, and life’s limitations, finding meaning through humour and family.

Told through the alternating perspectives of five childhood friends, Patrick, Shiv, Rian, Oli and Conor, all on the cusp of turning 30 and suddenly forced to confront a life where their hopes and dreams haven’t materialised. They are all walking the high wire. But which one will fall?

Barnard tells a story about friendship, place, loss, addiction and the ways in which lives, minds, and bodies can be limited by material conditions; it also speaks powerfully to the ways in which humour, loyalty, and family can bestow meaning and life even in the toughest circumstances.
