Los Javis’ ambitious and captivating homage to Federico García Lorca is the story of three men whose lives are intimately connected through desire, pain and inheritance across different eras – 1932, 1937, and 2017.

Spain, 1932. A young man awaits to see if he has secured membership of the local casino. In 1937, a young nationalist soldier guards a republican prisoner. Jump to 2017 and an unexpected document is inherited by a historian from his grandfather. Rich with Lorca’s poetry and suffused with desire, grief and hope, it is an intimate love story and a sweeping exploration of memory, inheritance and queer history, honouring those whose lives and loves were too often forced into silence.

This visually stunning epic earned the longest standing ovation at Cannes (nearly topping Pan’s Labyrinth‘s record breaking 22 mins) and includes performances from an ensemble cast of acting royalty; Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. A front runner to be Spain’s Academy Award candidate the film has already earned director duo ‘Los Javis’ the Best Director award at Cannes earlier this year.
