Bringing a fresh perspective to the history altering decisions and the unexpected impact the environment can place on moments of world history, Pressure finds us in the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, following General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice—launch the largest and most dangerous invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.
With star performances from Brendan Fraser (The Whale) and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Pressure also features local talent with experts from the Met Office consulting on the historical and meteorological elements of the film.
We are excited to be hosting two special screenings (Tue 29* Sep & Wed 30 Sep) followed by an expert discussion led by film advisor Martin Young.
*Tuesday’s discussion will take a more technical perspective, suited to industry professionals and those with a more scientific interest.
Martin Young is a retired Met Office meteorologist with 40 years’ experience in weather forecasting and research. During his career, he spent more than a decade as a Chief Forecaster, helping to interpret complex weather information and turn it into practical forecasts. He also worked in research, including the use of satellite imagery in weather forecasting, and has contributed to the Royal Meteorological Society’s journals.
Young was a technical adviser to Pressure. Drawing on his extensive experience of operational weather forecasting, as well as a keen interest its history, he advised the filmmakers on the scientific and likely practical realities of weather forecasting for D-Day. He continues to contribute to the understanding and history of meteorology following his retirement from the Met Office.
