One of the most prolific directors of Kurdish Cinema, Kazım Öz, bring the story of a survivor of the Dersim Massacre and the generations that followed in her wake.
Long ago a song was whispered to Jan’s ear by his grandmother, Zarife. Zarife hid her identity and her past in her memory of this song. When she is brought over to New York City for cancer treatment grandmother and grandson begin to know each other and Jan, born and raised in NYC begins a journey through Kurdistan, searching for his grandma’s past and his own self.
As Jan traces back to the song Zer, he finds himself crossing boarders in search for his Grandmother’s lost village, secrets and tales and eventually his own self and identity.
