Women’s Clowning

Building on Maggie Irving’s PhD thesis on feminist clowning, this is a chance for women to understand how feminist clowning and comedy can support a feeling of freedom from social norms in order to build confidence and communication skills for professional and personal use. Don’t worry –no pressure to be funny or have experience of comedy.

What will we be doing?

  • We will engage in stimulating and playful exercises to help build relationships and allow people to be ‘seen and heard’
  • Be introduced to the concept of feminist clowning through Maggie’s practice as research doctoral study on becoming a female/feminist clown
  • Creating an understanding of the fundamentals of feeling free and open to express yourself
  • Building knowledge on using language and physical expression to create connections with others and generate laughter
  • Telling our stories and sharing our unique points of view
