Ural Thomas performed in the 1960’s alongside James Brown, Otis Redding, and Stevie Wonder. Rekindling his love of funk and soul music in 2016 he assembled an all-star group, The Pain, featuring members of The Decemeberists, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and Blitzen Trapper.
With their new album Dancing Dimensions out via legendary British independent record label Bella Union, Ural Thomas And The Pain are showing no signs of slowing down.
“Veteran soul man enjoys continued renaissance… His third LP since emerging from retirement a decade ago sounds like a compilation of 70s’ soul highlights: the title track could be Shuggie Otis, ‘Heaven’ resembles the soulful funk-folk of Bill Withers, ‘First Dimension’ is like a Roy Ayres jam session. Best of all is the sprightly, Jackson 5-inspired ‘Gimme Some Ice Cream.’ Throughout, the octogenarian Thomas’ voice is in astonishingly limber condition.” Uncut – 8/10

HiFi LoFi are an energetic blend of funk, rock, soul and pop, heading out of Devon; if Prince and Beyonce had a surrogate child carried to term by Rage Against the Machine, with full time nannies Alice Russell and Pharrell Williams influencing its tiny little musically mind!
Powerful and seductive vocals, meets a tight, rock/funk backline, flavoured with punchy four-piece horn section
