The Zone of Interest (12A)

Dir. Jonathon Glazer
2023 | 105 mins | UK, Poland
Sandra Hüller, Christian Friedel, Freya Kreutzkam

  • Fri 05 Apr: 2pm + 8.15pm
  • Tue 09 Apr: 8.15pm

Hedwig (Sandra Hüller, Anatomy of a Fall) and Rudolf Höss (Christian Friedel), live the domestic dream, nestled between train tracks and gas chambers, spitting distance from Auschwitz, the infamous German concentration camp located in occupied Poland.

But audible from behind the wall are the sounds of mechanised death, for Rudolf Höss is the commandant of Auschwitz. Jonathan Glazer (Birth, Under the Skin) offers his most ambitious film yet, displacing the usual tropes of the Holocaust drama to depict the pampered life of executioners who quite literally live amongst the ashes of their actions.

Exeter was awarded UNESCO City of Literature designation in 2019 in recognition of “outstanding contributions to culture and creativity.” – Since then, Exeter City of Literature has produced the first printed literary map of Exeter and Devon, brought internationally renowned authors to the city, and formed the Partnership Network, a group of almost 30 organisations working in literary programming in and around Exeter, including Exeter Phoenix. Find out more about Exeter City of Literature here >>
