Steampunk Yule Ball

It’s a “Cosplay” Christmas Cracker

In its 6th year, The Steampunk Yule Ball just gets bigger and better.  And this year we are embracing all elements of Cosplay.  So whether you are a Steampunk with cyborg tendencies; a massive Marvel or DC fan; or even an Alice in Wonderland fetishist you will be in the best of company for this truly unique night of music, comedy, cabaret, couture and amazingly friendly, diverse and accepting people.

And do we have a treat for you … for the first time in Westcountry history we have the 2 battling chap hop legends on one stage … Professor Elemental and MR B; joining them will be Fey Pink and The Gaslight Troubadours;  And we are also excited to welcome to Devon, the freakishly fabulous Victor And The Bully to our line up.

DJ Louie Louie and DJ Perfect will be keeping the bar area moving all night until 2am with their eclectic and dancey tunes.

Hellrazer will be cooking up a storm with their unique and original Fire performance outside the Phoenix.

And introducing the Dead Dolls Cabaret troupe who will be taking over the workshop to keep us all entertained with their clowning, cabaret and drag acts … all night long.

PROFESSOR ELEMENTAL

He’s back! Professor Elemental has created a unique neo-Victorian blend of hip hop and comedy, and is the man behind the world’s first steampunk rap album. His music charts subjects such as steam-powered flight, underwater discovery, and nice cups of tea. With a heart of brass and a fine pith helmet, he embodies the Victorian spirit of invention and exploration.

MR B – GENTLEMAN RHYMER

Mr.B began his Chap-Hop career in the summer of 2007 when he decided to bring elements of his previous incarnations (UK rapper, jump-up breaks producer, banjolele maverick and dandy) together and create a genre. A Piece Of My Mind, his first ditty was released in Japan on Second Royal Records and its accompanying video and UK tour dates alerted the rest of the world to this new musical form.  Since then he has travelled the world, from Surrey to Osaka, Banstead to Berlin, Middlesborough to Minneapolis, Norway to New York and the Edinburgh Fringe to Glastonbury bringing his beats, rhymes and manners. As well as songs about cricket, pipe smoking, high society and interfering with livestock.  His videos have garnered millions of view on YouTube and his media appearances have included Rapping for Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight, playing live on BBC Radio One for Rob Da Bank, Nick Grimshaw and Scott Mills, on Radio Two for Claudia Winkleman and Steve Lamacq, 6Music for Tom Robinson and Shaun Kenaveny and for Zoe Ball on Sky Arts. He was also once the front page of the Wall Street Journal and was described by the Daily Mail as ‘Controversial’. He is also the inspiration for Professor Elemental’s seminal anthem Fighting Trousers.

THE GASLIGHT TROUBADOURS

The Gaslight Troubadours live act comprises of Professor Purblind, Victor Vector and Fey Pink (plus recorded appearances from Marc Almond, Tom Robinson, Professor Elemental and many others).  They are a dark glitch swing carnivalesque beats collective… with some tunes that you can hum and dance to… in the dark… Steam Funk, Vaudeville, Dark Cabaret, Steampunk, Circus Freak Show Sounds, Electronic Victorian beats.

FEY PINK

Fey Pink is an alternative Singer/Songwriter, Feminist, artist & activist who lives & works both in the UK and France.  Apart from her solo projects she has also worked extensively with French rapper BIG D and was the front-woman for The Mysterious Freakshow.

VICTOR AND THE BULLY

From the depths of London, UK come Victor and the Bully Armed with only a Ukulele, a Guitar, some moustache wax and a touch of Brylcreem to a create a twisted cabaret-like sound. Using honkytonk piano, violins, trumpets and anything they get their filthy mits on to back them creates a ‘Carnival blend’ inspired by steampunk, swing, mariachi, classical and punk to blow the cobwebs away and get your feet tapping!

DEAD DOLLS CABARET: The Side Show

Wyrd Ways Art Collaborative presents a saucy mix of dancing, show tunes and clowning in a Yule-themed cabaret sideshow. Come one, come all inside our off-color comedy circus and pay homage to the fairy creatures that haunt it.
