The Roots Resistance Showcase

The Roots Resistance is proud to collaborate with Exeter Phoenix to present a collection of film, photography and poetry.

The Roots Resistance is a multidisciplinary collective of creatives based in Exeter seeking to engage with the arts as a means of transformative expression. Through creativity, discussion and the exchange of ideas, the Roots Resistance is a project that brings together Black and POC communities, and their allies, in Exeter and beyond.

With the aide of the Exeter Decolonising Network, Exeter Annual Fund and the Education Incubator, over the past year Roots Resistance was able to commission artwork from the community. This showcase is the resulting body of work (and more!) achieved by the collective and its members.

This series of pieces represent the threads of creativity that run through in Exeter and beyond. It shares the voices, perspectives and experiences of both the individual and the collective in a selection of films, visual displays and live performances.

The photography exhibition will be free to view on the space from 5pm – no need to book, just turn up and have a look around!

ABOUT THE ROOTS RESISTANCE

We are the Roots Resistance, a student-led project that seeks to support the Black and POC community in Exeter and beyond with a philosophy grounded in anti-racism and decolonial knowledge production.

Founded in 2020 and funded by the Exeter Annual Fund and the Education Incubator, our aim is to build a hub of expression limited only by an exclusive commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive community for all. Through creativity, discussion and the exchange of ideas, we hope to share the experience of Black and People of Colour in an honest, inclusive and transformative way.

A collection of film, photography and poetry commissioned and curated by the Roots Resistance, a multidisciplinary collective of creatives based in Exeter and worldwide seeking to engage with the arts as a means of radical expression.
