Featuring a gleaming French cast including Audrey Tautou, director Jerome Salle takes us on a voyage through the life of legendary French oceanographer, environmentalist and filmmaker Jacques Cousteau.

Lavish, breath-taking and impressive, The Odyssey takes in some of Cousteau’s finest adventures across the globe as he pioneered the passion and spirit that brought humans closer to underwater worlds. Yet, for all its beauty, the film also explores the man behind the icon, and his flaws as he struggles to balance ambition with his role as a father, husband and visionary.

Salle’s biopic never veers from Cousteau’s darker elements, yet pays fine tribute to his undeniable legacy as one of France’s most enduring cultural icons.

This film is in French, with English subtitles.

*CAPTION SUBTITLED

Sunday’s screening will be caption subtitled. Captioning is a service for hearing-impaired or deaf people.

Exeter Phoenix will provide caption subtitled screenings of films when possible. These screenings have a transcription of the film’s dialogue in English along the bottom of the screen and a description of the sound in the film is also included in these captions. Further caption subtitled films can be found here >>

Our programme also contains many films subtitled into English from other languages. These may also be suitable for deaf or hearing-impaired customers but won’t always include additional descriptions of sounds. These films can be found here >>
