With an introduction from Dr Clive Nwonka

Dir. Simon Kellan Jones

2000 | 95 mins | UK

Screening for only the second time in 23 years and written by the actor-screenwriter Lennie James, Storm Damage is an emotionally powerful, imaginative and complex portrayal of the experiences of young people living within a care home in Brixton’s Angel Town.

In this culturally significant story, Danny (Adrian Lester) is an idealistic Black teacher-turned-care worker whose major challenge lies in turning the home’s primary delinquent Stefan (Ashley Walters) away from the negative and potentially fatal influence of local gangster Boniface (James). A memorable drama that has achieved cult status; don’t miss this opportunity to see this very rarely seen film.

This film will be introduced by Dr Clive Nwonka, Associate Professor in Film, Culture and Society at University College, London. Clive is the author of Black Film/British Cinema II and the forthcoming Black Boys: The Aesthetics of British Urban Film and has authored reports on race and the British film industry.
