Spork! Dead Poets Slam

Spork! | Produced by Chris White

Join Spork! Poetry for another spectacular (& slightly spooky) spoken-word event, featuring the incredible UK Slam Champion Rick Dove, plus 6 famous faces brought back to life in a “Dead Poets Slam,” and support from Deeksha Verender.

RICK DOVE

Once voted “most likely to start the revolution,” and Dubbed “one to watch” by TS Eliot Prize winner Roger Robinson, Rick Dove is a progressive poet & activist from SW London. He’s performed across the UK and internationally, with credits including The Wandsworth Arts Fringe, the Edinburgh Fringe & Shambala Festival, has published two collections with Burning Eye Books; Tales From the Other Box (August 2020), and Supervillain Origin Story (May 2023), and was crowned the Hammer & Tongue UK Poetry Slam Champion at the Royal Albert Hall in July 2021.

Equally at home on a stage, a page, or on a march, Rick has a vision of a fairer world and he wants to take you with him.

THE DEAD POETS SLAM

Ever wanted to see Bukowski, Byron, Plath & Poe going head to head in a poetry slam? Well now’s your chance! Six famous poets will rise from the dead, brought to life by six contemporary artists for one night only! They’ll battle it out in a chance to win everlasting life, plus a cash prize of £100. Using a mixture of their own poetry, the work of their alias, and some stuff they make up on the night. Expect punches, pithy remarks and pure fire, in the ultimate graveyard smash.

Deeksha Verender

Deeksha’s work has appeared in The Bangalore Review, The Hoxie Gorge Review, The Alipore Post and Bandit Fiction. She has performed in events across Devon and Bangalore, such as the City Slam and the National Youth Poetry Slam. Her writing centres on how the contemporary world holds space for women from the global majority and her own dissection of her identity and inner narrative.
