Spork! Dead Poets Slam

Join Spork! this Halloween for another spectacular & spooky spoken-word event, featuring the incredible, award-winning poet Ella Frears. Plus 6 famous faces brought back to life in a “Dead Poets Slam.” All hosted by the gruesome twosome that is Edward Tripp & Chris White.

ELLA FREARS
Have no fear, it’s Ella Frears! Ella is a captivating poet and writer based in London. Her debut collection, Shine, Darling received critical acclaim, as a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and was shortlisted for the T. S. Eliot Prize for Poetry. Ella’s work has been featured in various prestigious publications, and she’s held several residencies, including with the National Trust and Tate Britain. Her work is celebrated for its sharp wit and insightful exploration of human experiences.

Fizzing with insistent energy… full of crystalline images and metaphors…. Frears is excellent.’ – The Guardian

YOUR HOSTS
Chris White is a poet, performer and the founder of Spork! The first Riddler in Residence at Exeter Cathedral, and a multiple slam winner, his poems about love, ducks and other wet things are soul-searching, subversive and silly. Edward Tripp is a stand-up poet with a penchant for the dark and downright absurd. A firm favourite on the South West comedy and poetry scenes, Ed is bringing his debut show No Man is an Ireland to The Edinburgh Fringe this year.

THE DEAD POETS SLAM
Ever wanted to see Bukowski, Byron, Plath & Poe going head to head and toe to toe? Well now’s your chance! Six famous poets will rise from the dead, brought to life by six contemporary artists for one night only! They’ll battle it out in a chance to win everlasting life, plus a cash prize of £100. Using a mixture of their own poetry, the work of their alias, and some stuff they make up on the night. Expect punches, pithy remarks and pure fire, in the ultimate graveyard smash.
