Sayoko, a seemingly happy middle-aged housewife is blessed with a kindly salaryman husband and a sweet-natured teenage daughter. Yet after moving to a new neighbourhood, she finds herself becoming hopelessly infatuated with her young hairdresser, an interest that rapidly spirals out of control.
Someones Xylophone is a probing character study of a woman, discontent with life and who refuses to fall into any of the expected categories.
This latest film by legendary director Yoichi Higashi (The River with No Bridge, No More Easy Life) delves deep into the mind of an ordinary woman who acts upon her hidden desires.
