Mahin is 70 years-old and lives alone in a leafy suburb of Tehran. Since her husband died and her daughter moved abroad life is quiet, with only the occasional visit from friends to break her solitary routine. After one such gathering, over an afternoon of sharing food and gossip Mahin is inspired to get back out there and revitalise her love life. But as Mahin opens herself up to a new romance, what begins as an unexpected encounter quickly evolves into an unpredictable, unforgettable evening.
With charming and beautiful moments that are infectious in their joy this wonderfully sweet and funny film draws our attention to living alongside a repressive regimes (the Iranian government prevented the film’s two directors from attending the premiere at Berlin) while giving power to the 70-year-old heroine, who stands up for herself and casually flouts the rules without a second thought. We could all learn a thing or two from Mahin.
