introduction to Fashion Design

Develop basic skills and techniques in fashion design and create your own clothing.

This series of workshops is designed for enthusiasts and students who want to learn the fundamentals of fashion design from concept to garment construction.

The course will cover

• Idea generation; creating mood boards, swatch books which will include understanding fabrics and their uses
• Using sketch-books, developing your ideas and moving from concept to garments
• Using basic patterns, adapting a commercial pattern.
• Garment making

Tutor Nicola Cox will aim to support individual progression throughout the course so that people can work at their own pace.

Participants will initially need to bring their own sketchbook/pencils etc and you will need to bring fabric etc when progressing on to the garment making stage.

You will also need to bring your own sewing machine as we are only able to offer the use of a couple of basic machines.

Tutor Nicola Cox

Nicola has worked in the fashion industry for many years and now works as a freelance designer and teacher. In more recent years she has become involved in designing and creating costume for the theatre and dance productions, collaborating with many different performers.
