France, 2012, 105mins. Dir. François Ozon
The latest film from François Ozon (Potiche) is a compelling yet chilling and ever-so-self-aware thriller that blurs the lines between fiction, and reality. When disillusioned teacher Germain gets hooked on 16-year-old Claude’s stories which revolve around a fellow student’s family, especially the gorgeous mother, he encourages him to write more of his invasive, slightly sinister fiction. When the stories start to focus on Germain’s wife (Kristin Scott Thomas), however, things take a turn for the weird. A tale about the seductive, sometimes dangerous charms of storytelling. Highly recommended.
‘(Ozon’s) best work to date’
