Hindustani Music at Exeter (hosted by Exeter South Asia Centre)

The Exeter South Asia Centre presents a rare opportunity to hear esteemed Sarod player, Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan as part of his UK tour. He will perform Hindustani music in the instrumental style that traces its roots back to the Lucknow court of Wajid Ali Shah and further to the sons of 16th century figurehead of North Indian Classical music, Tan Sen. Pete Yelding, an SWW DTP PhD student at Exeter and student of Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan, will give a short performance alongside his esteemed teacher. The concert will also feature a rising star from the next generation of Khayal style – the dominant vocal style in Hindustani music – vocalist Viraj Amar.
