Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal shine as a couple who receive an unexpected guest in Garth Davis’ (Lion) unsettling science fiction thriller.

In a dystopian near future, a couple’s rural idyl is shattered when the husband is forced to go to space. Davis’ (Lion, Mary Magdalene) skill at rendering a world is evident in this impressive adaptation of Iain Reid’s 2018 novel. But it is the dynamic between Ronan and Mescal that charges the atmosphere of this tense and intelligent, one-day-in-the-future thriller.
