How can writers use landscape and place within fiction? Novelist, Ben Smith explores how to make setting an active agent in fiction rather than just a backdrop for plot. Join us at this Novel Nights author talk and Q&A. In the Writers’ Showcase three writers will share their fiction on stage.
Ben’s debut novel, Doggerland is a tale of loneliness and survival, archaeological remains and rusting wind turbines, set against the backdrop of a water-filled landscape.
Ben Smith lives in Cornwall and is a lecturer in creative writing at Plymouth University, specializing in environmental literature and focusing particularly on oceans, climate change and the Anthropocene.
