Exeter Library Lates: Awaken the Library!

A specially curated late-night event, live from Exeter Library. Each Library Lates weaves live music, theatre, and film imaginatively throughout the building, showing you a side to the library you may not have seen before.

The main library stage will see Samantics, a one man machine of honesty, energy, words and noise. Using a trolley full of sounds, including ukulele, bass, beats, piano, harmonies, blips and bloops and more, all brought together with loop station and sampler to create a hot pot of powerful, noisy poetry. It’s not quite hip – hop, but it’s not quite not.

As well as this, we will be hosting Emily Magpie on the main stage, a dynamic and exciting dream-pop three-piece that creates glittering spatial soundscapes that shimmer endlessly as brooding swirls of electronics and effervescent melodies intertwine with song writing delving into different dimensions. She has been described by The Line of Best Fit as “spine-tingly special” and we cannot wait to have her and her band at the library.

Elsewhere in the library, we have an interactive creative art exhibition run by Black Dog and Sweet F.A, a rebel art-collective and boutique based in Tiverton that champion positive mental health and create thought-provoking pieces of all kinds. Audience members will be invited to take part in creating a collaborative piece of art, each completing their own small section in secret with a reveal of the overall piece at the end of the evening.

We will also be hosting an installation from the brilliant Oddstep Deployment Unit who will be showcasing an audiovisual montage of recordings, readings, 3d modelling, texts and synthesis obtained from Exeter Library that is brought to life using generative processes and improvisation. A spellbinding mix of live visuals and sound, this will be a truly unique experience.

To add to this, we will also be running a silent disco, with tunes from our resident librarian DJs, DJ Norman Fonts (Rev) and DJ Shorty and DJ Ting. Expect an alternative mix of retro hits, slow burners, dance classics and everything in between while you browse the shelves.

Bar Nova will also be operating in the library keeping the party going with a selection of beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks and snacks.
